Utah Gunnison Sage-Grouse Days

Friday & Saturday April 18-19th, 2014
Limit: 10 participants
Cost: $10 per person (donation to GSL Audubon, Grouse Days Sticker, and Information Packet)
Leaders: Tim Avery, Jeff Bilsky, and Carl Ingwell

We’ve had to change up our plans this year for Gunnison Sage-Grouse Days--to a one day trip without a visit to one of the leks (with owling hte night before). The DNR only offered one trip to the lek this year and it was too early in the season to plan this event. We will visit an area where we have found Gunnison Sage-Grouse in the past that is not on one of the currently monitored DNR leks.

There is no guarantee we will see any grouse--but in past trips we are 4 for 4 at this location.

We will also bird the Hickman Flats Road area for some great southeast Utah shrubsteppe birding, and then finish the morning near Monticello, then at Devil’s Canyon Campground, Recapture Reservoir, and the Blanding Water Treatment Ponds

The trip will officially kick off the night before to go owling at Devil's Canyon Campground, followed by the day birding around Monticello and Blanding. The cost this year is going to be $10 which will cover your info packet, sticker, and a small donation to GSL Audubon.

If you are interested in going, the 1st ten people to sign up will have spots on the trip. We will also take a list of alternates to fill spots of those who cannot make it.

Last year we saw 130 species over the weekend and had a great time-- you can read about it here.
